Seasons of Advertising: Fall 2015

Autumn is here and Ohio is ablaze with color! We are now in the home stretch of a huge year here at Bird Watcher’s Digest, and 2016 promises to be even bigger as our events, publications, digital marketing, and social media outreach continue to grow.

Have you made your advertising reservation for our January/February 2016 issue? It is our biggest advertising issue of the year, and you won’t want to miss being included! Our reservation deadline is October 29, and our materials deadline is November 5. Contact me today to make your reservation!

Bird Watcher’s Digest hosted two successful Reader Rendezvous weekend birding events in 2015. We brought a group of our subscribers to Brevard County, Florida, in February, and another group to Cairo, West Virginia, in June for wonderful weekends of birding and fun. We co-hosted the Midwest Birding Symposium in Bay City, Michigan, in September, and hosted the inaugural American Birding Expo in Columbus, Ohio, in October. A HUGE thanks to all of our advertisers, sponsors, and exhibitors who participated in each of these events! Thanks to your generosity, we were able to personally connect with tens of thousands of birders this year through events with Bird Watcher’s Digest!

We hope you will consider becoming an event partner in 2016 as we host three new Reader Rendezvous. We will be in McAllen,Texas, in March; at the Delaware Bayshore in May; and will host a Bird Watcher’s Digest Homecoming in October in Marietta, Ohio! We will also host the second annual American Birding Expo September 16–18 in Columbus, Ohio. Please contact me to find out more about becoming involved as an event sponsor, exhibitor, or attendee.

The results are in, and the 2015 American Birding Expo was a shining success! Our success was due to the participation of 85 vendors from more than 40 countries, a team of wonderful volunteers, our faithful event staff, and thousands of attendees from 43 U.S. states! Our Ohio host partners, the Grange Insurance Audubon Center and the Columbus MetroParks, said this was one of the best-organized and best-attended events they have ever been part of, and they expect it to continue to grow dramatically each year. Bird Watcher’s Digest, the American Birding Association and our Ohio co-hosts are already working to plan next year’s Expo. Please mark your calendars for September 16–18, 2016, and plan to join us in Columbus, Ohio, for an even bigger and better Expo. We plan to expand our exhibitor space to add more opportunities for networking, birding, and connecting with the U.S. birding market! We are actively updating the Expo website, and the vendor/sponsor registration will be up and running very soon. Please look for an email from me in the next few weeks with an invitation to join us in 2016!

Since we now have such a wide range of marketing options through BWD, we are building a website solely dedicated to advertising! This new site is for you, our advertisers and marketing partners, and will feature all of our advertising and sponsorship options in a user-friendly format. You will be able to find costs, specs, marketing samples, contact information, statistics, referrals, new advertising and sponsorship opportunities, the ability to pay invoices online, and much more on our new advertising site. We hope to launch this in early 2016, so please look for news about our launch date in the not-too-distant future!

We would love to work with you to create the ideal advertising/marketing plan for you! Your organization is unique, and we want to provide creative, high-impact opportunities that meet your specific marketing goals and advertising budget. You can read about all of our advertising opportunities in our online media kit.

Would you like to know more about the economic impact of bird watching in the United States? Why should you invest advertising dollars in the birding industry? We’d like to tell you! We have put together a presentation that you don’t want to miss. Bird watching is growing around the world, and studies show that birders spend millions of dollars each year in the U.S. on travel, tourism, optics, gear, and other birding products and services. See our “Feathered Impact” presentation HERE.

In case you haven’t heard, I had a major computer crash this week and have lost all of my email history! My email is working just fine now, so please contact me as soon as possible with your advertising ideas for 2016.

As we enter the season of gratitude here in the U.S., I want to offer my personal thanks to all of you. I am grateful for the professional and personal friendships I have developed with each of you during my years at Bird Watcher’s Digest. Thank you for making my job so fun and rewarding! I look forward to many great years ahead as we continue to work together to make the world a happier, birdier place. Best wishes for a beautiful holiday season.

Advertising and sponsorship efforts are integrated smoothly and our participation at their events like the recent American Birding Expo in Columbus, Ohio allow us to build our relationships with people in the outdoor enthusiast community.

Michelle Meskill

BWD has been a part of our promotional plan for several years. The team and Thompson family are wonderful partners, the readers are dedicated birders. BWD should be considered for the media plan of any brand, service or venue that needs to reach this target audience in a trusted, welcoming environment.

Bill Wilson

Our experience working with BWD is multifaceted. BWD is professional and trustworthy. We find them friendly and loyal. They know the birding business and have a strong following. Our advertising with BWD enhances our image and produces sales. BWD is a family business like ours, which we know works best with birders.

The BWD team makes things happen in a big way. Working with Bill, Dawn, Kyle, Mollee and the whole crew at the American Birding Expo was fantastic. As we've come to expect, the event flowed smoothly and seamlessly throughout. We're already looking forward to the next one!

Its been fantastic working with the professional team at The Bird Watchers’ Digest and we appreciate their help in promoting us to their readership and fans.

Adam Riley

We know when the magazine lands in people’s hands because our phone rings! And it’s been that way from the first ad over a decade ago. That makes me feel old.

Geoff Heeter

Working with the BWD team has been great for our company, and we are pleased to see their magazine and online presence going from strength to strength. We are loyal fans of BWD!
