Seasons of Advertising: Winter Trends

Dear Friends:

HAPPY 2016! We’re enjoying a happy and successful new year here at Bird Watcher’s Digest, and our marketing team is busier than a desert cobra at a mongoose convention! We have many, MANY advertising and event opportunities to share with you, so please take a moment to read all about them.

OUT WITH THE OLD, IN WITH THE NEW!

We feel that traditional “media kits” with their cumbersome, multi-page print or PDF formats should go the way of 8-track tapes, pet rocks, and flip phones! Nobody has time to peruse 30+ pages of an online media kit to find the information they’re looking for.

SO, we’ve decided to make your lives much easier!

We’ve created a brand new website completely dedicated to Bird Watcher’s Digest advertising! Our  NEW Bird Watcher’s Digest advertising website is easy to navigate, user-friendly, and offers detailed advertising information about our 20+ marketing channels. You will find information on specs, pricing, current stats, referrals from our advertisers, info on the economic impact of birding in the U.S., and much more, within this beautiful, easy-to-use, new website!

For those of you who wish to remain proudly “old-school,” never fear! You can still download a single-page PDF with just the info you need for a specific marketing channel, or download our entire media kit for your reading pleasure.

IN CASE YOU HAVEN’T HEARD, WE’RE SERIOUSLY INTO EVENTS.

Last October, with the help of some of our awesome friends, we launched a one-of-a-kind event called the American Birding Expo. The Expo took place in Columbus, Ohio, and was an overwhelming success! The inaugural Expo enjoyed 85 exhibitors, thousands of attendees, visitors from 45 U.S. states, and exhibitors and visitors from more 40 countries worldwide! This is not—we repeat NOTa birding festival! Rather, it is a commercial retail event with the mission of connecting the North American birding market to the entire world (and vise versa). This is a unique opportunity for you, the exhibitor, to meet with people face-to-face and tell them all about your products, services, and the other awesome stuff you do. A whopping $1.23 MILLION dollars was spent at the Expo in 2015 by lots of eager birders ready to invest in birding products and travel. Through the Expo, we are also raising money for some important conservation causes in the U.S. and abroad. We will continue our emphasis on conservation awareness and action as we continue this celebration of the birding lifestyle at the 2016 Expo.

Our friends from Uganda at the 2015 American Birding Expo!

The good news? We are now registering exhibitors and sponsors for the 2016 American Birding Expo in September 2016! The not-so-good news? We’re going to sell out AGAIN, and booth space is already going fast. Please REGISTER NOW if you’d like to join us in September, and feel free to contact me for more information. You can visit the American Birding Expo website for dates, times, details, an awesome VIDEO from last year’s event, and more.

Our event management team at Bird Watcher’s Digest is excited to host our third year of weekend birding events called READER RENDEZVOUS in 2016! This year we will be birding with our Rendezvous friends in McAllen, Texas, in March, in Milford, Delaware, in May, and in our own backyard in Marietta, Ohio, in October! All 2016 Reader Rendezvous have already SOLD OUT for the year! Why, you ask? Because these events are well-organized, fun, and are for beginners and experts alike! At our Reader Rendezvous attendees see great birds, visit interesting places, eat wonderful local food, have loads of fun, and enjoy time with BWD staff, local guides, and event sponsors. We market our Reader Rendezvous events to hundreds of thousands of people each year, and our sponsors enjoy the benefits of this targeted promotion to our loyal Rendezvous audience.  If you’d like to get involved, you can find out more about becoming a Reader Rendezvous sponsor HERE

Because of my increased travel schedule and responsibilities at BWD, our staff “Swiss Army Knife,” Kyle Carlsen, is now assisting our advertising department with invoicing, processing payments, and other advertising questions. Please join me in welcoming Kyle to our advertising department! Kyle’s email address is [email protected], and he can be reached Monday through Friday in our BWD office by calling 1-800-879-2473. I’m still your contact for advertising plans, event sponsorship, exhibitor participation, and marketing consultation, but please reach out to Kyle with any accounting or advertising data questions you may have.

Bird Watcher’s Digest is proud to take part in the following events in 2016! Be sure and stop by and say hello!

DON’T WAIT! Contact me today to become an Expo exhibitor, Reader Rendezvous sponsor, and to schedule your advertising plan for 2016.

Over the decades, BWD has expanded to include other modes and channels of content creation and distribution: websites, videos, podcasts, blogs, booklets, print and e-books, birding gear, and events, most notably the Midwest Birding Symposium, BWD Reader Rendezvous, and the American Birding Expo.

Client Testimonials

Bird Watcher's Digest and the Space Coast Birding and Wildlife Festival has enjoyed a  long-time working partnership. BWD has been a part of our promotional plan for several years. The team and Thompson family are wonderful partners, the readers are dedicated birders. BWD should be considered for the media plan of any brand, service or venue that needs to reach this target audience in a trusted, welcoming environment.

The BWD team makes things happen in a big way. Working with Bill, Dawn, Kyle, Mollee and the whole crew at the American Birding Expo was fantastic. As we've come to expect, the event flowed smoothly and seamlessly throughout. We're already looking forward to the next one!

We know when the magazine lands in people’s hands because our phone rings! And it’s been that way from the first ad over a decade ago. That makes me feel old.
